Power, Data, Security: Everything Starts with the Right Connection

Modern buildings are more than just four walls and a ceiling. There’s hidden infrastructure behind every outlet, sensor, and fire alarm. They supply buildings with power and connect them with the rest of the world. The part that is often invisible: the cables and wires that make everything possible.

Requirements for cables and wires in building automation technology

In building automation technology, there are two important factors: durability and reliability in the case of fire. This is because cables and wires are trapped inside walls, shafts, or ceilings. There, they must be able to withstand quite a bit and, at the same time, avoid interference in the flow of electricity and data for decades.

It is for these reasons that cables used in buildings are subject to clear regulations. In the European Union, the CPR (Construction Products Regulation) is the authoritative standard. It dictates the CE labelling, a declaration of performance, and the classification of cables into defined fire protection classes.
