Wherever the Wind May Blow, Our Connections Hold Strong

Wind power is one of the foundational pillars of the transition to renewable energies. Whether on land or at sea, wind turbines produce electricity under extreme conditions around the clock and in any weather. And the star of the show behind the scenes is the electrical connection technology that makes everything possible.

Requirements for cables and wires in wind turbines

Wind turbines demand a lot from the materials. The nacelle is constantly turning in the wind. Cables and wires must be able to move with it, sometimes thousands of times per year. They must also withstand extreme temperature fluctuations, UV radiation, and strong, mechanical loads such as vibration. The cables used here do more than just transport the electrical power that is produced here. Modern systems also require control and data cables.

For offshore systems, the requirements are even higher. Cables and wires are the important link that connects wind turbines on the high seas with the mainland kilometres away. On the seabed, they must withstand pressure and aggressive salt water. This requires particular construction and the selection of specialty materials—as well as a partner with the required experience and competence.
