Wiring a sustainable future - one connection at a time
At HELU, sustainability is not a reporting exercise — it is how we operate. With 2,500 employees across 43 countries, every decision we make leaves a footprint. That is why we measure it, publish it, and commit to reducing it — across all three scopes, throughout our entire value chain.
Connections for the Future
For us, sustainability means making the right decisions every day—regarding
our customers and employees, society, and the environment.
Katharina Lehr, Sustainability & ESG Manager
Recognized in EcoVadis Rankings
Since 2019, HELU Group has submitted to independent sustainability assessment by EcoVadis — one of the world's most rigorous and widely recognised ESG rating providers, covering 125,000 companies across 180+ countries.
In 2025, we were awarded the EcoVadis Bronze Medal, placing us among the top 35% of all evaluated companies globally. The assessment spans four categories: environment, labour & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement — giving our customers and partners a transparent, comparable view of how we operate throughout our value chain.
Where we take responsibility
Responsible Corporate Governance
As a second-generation, family-run business, we are not driven by short-term success; we strive for healthy, lasting growth together with our customers, partners, and employees.
Marc Luksch, Managing Director of the HELU Group
For us, governance is not a compliance exercise — it is how a family business earns the right to grow across generations. That means clear accountability at every level: from how we set sustainability targets and monitor progress, to how we conduct supplier due diligence under the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG), to how we ensure our 2,500 employees across 43 countries work under consistent, fair standards.
Our corporate policy defines the principles that guide every decision we make — and we review it regularly as our business and its responsibilities evolve.
Sustainable Products and Solutions
The cables and connection systems we manufacture are used in renewable energy installations, industrial automation, building technology, and transport infrastructure worldwide. Durability and material efficiency are built into our product design — longer product lifespans mean fewer replacements, less raw material consumption, and less waste. At end of life, the majority of materials used in our products can be recovered through recycling.
Product Carbon Footprint (PCF): emissions transparency across the lifecycle
We see the calculation of PCFs as an important step towards greater transparency and responsibility throughout our value chain. At the same time, we also understand it to be a continuous process - we continuously develop the quality and availability of our data, thus making the results more precise and meaningful with every step.
We provide PCF data for our products, covering greenhouse gas emissions from raw material extraction through manufacturing to warehouse dispatch. PCF documents are available in our Online Shop and on request.
REACH and RoHS: European Guidelines for Chemicals and Hazardous Materials
The European Union's REACH and RoHS regulations are standardized guidelines for the use of chemicals and other potentially dangerous materials. These regulations are also relevant for products manufactured by HELU. The respective confirmations that our company acts and manufactures in conformity with REACH and RoHS requirements can be downloaded here.

Caring for the Future
As a manufacturer operating across 43 countries, our environmental footprint is significant — and so is our responsibility to reduce it. We do not treat environmental protection as a reporting obligation. We treat it as an operational priority, measured annually and acted on at every level of our business.
How we measure our impact
We calculate our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol, broken down across all three scopes:
- Scope 1 — Direct emissions from company-owned sources (heating, company vehicles)
- Scope 2 — Indirect emissions from purchased energy (electricity, heat)
- Scope 3 — All other indirect emissions (raw materials, business travel, waste)
Measuring all three scopes gives us a complete picture of where our emissions come from — and where the greatest opportunities to reduce them lie.
Our environmental actions - Energy
- On-site solar farm
A large part of the electrical energy used in our production, logistics, and offices is generated cleanly via our own photovoltaic systems. Excess energy is fed into the public grid.
- Heating using waste heat
We utilize the waste heat from compressors and extruders as heat energy in our production halls. This simultaneously reduces our energy usage and our operating costs.
- Modern building engineering
Our production facilities around the globe are some of the most modern of their kind and are equipped with exceptionally energy-efficient machinery.
Our environmental actions - Materials & Waste
- Waste sorting and recycling
In our manufacturing, we consistently sort waste an above-average quota of 96%. Waste from cable production is recycled and valuable materials such as copper are recirculated.
- Wooden drum collection & reuse
We retrieve empty wooden cable drums from our customers free of charge and reuse them whenever possible. At the end of their lifespan, they are recycled in an eco-friendly manner.
- Closed coolant circuit
The coolant from our cable extrusion process is kept within the system and is used multiple times. This reduces the need for fresh water during production.
Our environmental actions - Electric vehicles and conveyors
We are steadily increasing the proportion of electric vehicles in our fleet, and our manufacturing and logistics, electric forklifts are in use, which reduce operating emissions.
Trust Begins with Procurement
As an internationally active manufacturer, we work with a large number of suppliers and business partners around the globe. Managing it responsibly — with full visibility into human rights risks, environmental practices, and ethical standards — is not optional for us. It is central to what we promise our customers.
What we expect from our suppliers
We require all suppliers to comply with applicable legal requirements and recognized social and environmental standards. This covers labour rights, environmental risk reduction, and ethical business conduct — aligned with the four categories assessed by EcoVadis, our independent sustainability rating provider.
How we fulfil our due diligence obligations
The German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains (LkSG) provides the legal framework for our risk management process. In practice, this means:
- Systematic risk analysis across our supply chain
- Defined preventative and corrective measures
- A published policy statement outlining our due diligence principles
- Ongoing supplier engagement and awareness-raising
We are transparent about where we are in this process: our focus now is on strengthening data quality and deepening collaboration with key suppliers — because responsible supply chains are built over time, not overnight.
More than a mere employer
At HELU, people are not a resource — they are the reason we have been able to grow across generations. My role is to make sure that every one of our 2,500 employees feels that.
Katja Lägeler, Head of People & Culture
Our more than 2,500 employees are dear to us. Their commitment and expertise are what make our success as a company possible in the first place. In order to show them appreciation for their commitment, we make every effort to provide them with the best-possible working conditions—from highly modern workstations that meet the highest requirements for ergonomics and safety to a variety of health, fitness, and retirement benefits.
Equal opportunity and diversity are no empty promise for us—they are actively practiced and promoted. In this way, we create an attractive and family-oriented environment where every employee can develop and contribute with their strengths.
Our Commitment to Society
Nearly 50 years of business have taught us one thing clearly: a company does not exist in isolation from the communities around it. We have grown because the regions where we operate — from Hemmingen to our subsidiaries across 43+ countries — have provided us with talent, infrastructure, and trust. We take that seriously.
Education and next-generation talent
We invest in education because we believe the strongest supply of future talent comes from the communities we are part of.
Local initiatives and social projects
Across our global locations, HELU teams are active in the communities around them — supporting local associations, charitable initiatives, and events that reflect the values of the regions where we work.
Fair cooperation — everywhere we operate
From our headquarters in Hemmingen, Germany to every international subsidiary, we apply the same standard of fair, respectful conduct — with employees, suppliers, partners, and the communities we are part of. This is not a policy we enforce from the top. It is a culture we have built over five decades.
